The solution for injection 0.9% sodium chloride is used to restore fluid and electrolytes. This solution is also used as repository of water and electrolytes in case of moderate alkalosis, in shortage of sodium, and as diluents for medicaments. In dehydration states, hidrosaline dispossession and in situations that require electrolyte replacement of sodium and chloride, such as diarrhea, shock, trauma, burns, postoperative, among others. Sodium salts are used in the treatment of depletion of extra cellular volume, dehydration and sodium depletion which may occur soon after excessive diuresis, gastroenteritis and salt restriction.
A 0.9% sodium chloride solution is contraindicated in cases of hypernatremia, fluid retention and hyperchloremia; in patients with severe renal impairment and cases of metabolic acidosis. The use in patients with a known history of hypersensitivity to the product must be avoided.
